BlueInGreen to Provide pH Adjustment for the City of Minneapolis
Water treatment company to install carbon dioxide dissolution system at the Fridley Softening Plant in spring 2017
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (December 15, 2016) - Water treatment company BlueInGreen will provide pH adjustment for the City of Minneapolis. Twin CDOX® units, each designed and built by BlueInGreen exclusively for the Minneapolis Public Works Water Treatment and Distribution Services Division, will provide the world's most efficient and cost-effective carbon dioxide dissolution system to the Fridley Softening Plant in spring 2017.
The upcoming project is the culmination of several years of site-specific research and development conducted by the City of Minneapolis and BlueInGreen, represented in Minnesota by S. Roberts Co. Operators began piloting BlueInGreen's CDOX system at the Fridley Softening Plant, which feeds both the Fridley Filter and Columbia Heights Membrane Plants, in 2012. During the pilot process, the CDOX used 40 percent less carbon dioxide than the city's existing system.

The City of Minneapolis partnered with CH2M Hill, an Engineering News-Record (ENR) Top 500 Design Firm, to assist in updating its treatment facility. During the bid evaluation process, the design team at CH2M Hill considered various factors, such as upfront expenses, life-cycle costs and overall system performance. Ultimately, the City of Minneapolis and CH2M Hill selected BlueInGreen's CDOX over conventional competitors due to its unparalleled efficiency and long-term value.

Featuring the smallest sidestream flow rates and lowest pumping costs on the market, the dual CDOX units will offer operators at the Fridley Softening Plant unparalleled treatment control while automatically stabilizing pH levels for Minneapolis' water supply. This highly efficient, industry-leading capability is expected to reduce carbon dioxide costs, power consumption and water usage for the 160-MGD rated facility.
